Encouragement

“The meaning of earthly existence lies not, as we have grown used to thinking, in prospering but in the development of the soul.” - Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

As you prepare for the start of a new school year, may you reflect upon the weight of what we are actually doing here. If you have chosen this path of Christ-centered, classical, and collaborative education, it is because you know there is more to education than filling the mind of a child with information and strategies for success in the world. Set your focus on one of the truest goals of education: to nourish the soul with what is true, good, and beautiful. As parents we have been commissioned, not to ensure every possible material good to our children, but to prepare their souls for eternity. As I reflect upon how confusing life can be as I attempt to raise a family in the middle of a large metropolitan city in 2022, it is easy to get lost in the pursuit of material success and prosperity. I forget that I am a sojourner, here only for a moment, on my way to eternity (1 Chronicles 29:15). I lose sight of the reality that I wasn’t created for this world, and the pursuit of its treasures is a trap. Let us not forget that our primary role as parents is to prepare our children for a life more permanent than this one, a life of eternity. Educating this way is not the easy way, but it is the good way. It requires daily discipline, repentance, and an active pursuit of what is true, good, and beautiful.
